Atul Arya leads the IHS Research and Analysis organization, the world-leading independent provider of strategic research. Arya has overall responsibility for leading the teams that offer the highest quality, actionable insights into the current issues and future trends within the global marketplace. He previously served as Vice President, Energy Research at IHS and was responsible for the development and delivery of the global energy research teams. Arya has over 25 years of leadership experience in the energy industry. He previously worked for BP, where most recently he was Chief Advisor, Energy and Climate Policy. In this post he was responsible for analyzing the impact of energy and climate policies on BP’s long-range participation choices, and developing its strategic and policy response. His career includes international leadership experience in a diverse array of energy fields spanning strategy development, business planning, field operations and technology commercialization. His experience includes leadership in solar energy development as well as oil and gas. Early in his career, Arya was a consultant in the oil and gas sector in United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

Arya is a Distinguished Lecturer at the Society of Petroleum Engineers; a member of the Global Agenda Council on Climate Change with the World Economic Forum; an Advisory Board member for the National Council for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado; and an Advisory Council member for the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. He holds a B. Tech. from the Indian School of Mines, an MS from University of Tulsa and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.
